Athena is a beautiful 2-year-old Great Pyrenees whose story is already one of resilience, kindness, and hope.
When Athena wandered up to someone's home, she was heartbreakingly thin and her beautiful white coat was tangled with countless sticker burrs that had become painfully matted into her fur. Thankfully, she was brought to South Houston Animal Control, where it quickly became clear that despite everything she'd been through, her gentle spirit had never been broken.
From the moment she arrived, Athena has been nothing short of an angel. She patiently stood through a much-needed bath and grooming session, allowing shelter volunteers to brush and carefully cut away every last sticker burr without complaint. All she wanted in return was a little love and attention.
Athena absolutely adores people and thrives on affection. She walks beautifully on a leash, rides quietly in the car, and has settled wonderfully into her foster home. She's living happily with other dogs and even a cat, proving what an easygoing, gentle soul she truly is.
Right now, Athena is focused on healing. As she gains the weight she so desperately needed and her gorgeous coat grows back thick and full, there's no doubt she's going to be absolutely breathtaking. But her greatest beauty has always been on the inside. Her sweet, trusting nature and unwavering love for people are what make Athena truly special.
