This sweet little floof has a big personality, a lot of life ahead of him, and a leg that needs our help.
Y’all have met little Lewis, the 5-month-old puppy who was found abandoned with his brother in Montgomery. We could tell something wasn’t quite right with this poor baby’s rear leg. His paw doesn’t sit the way it should, and he doesn’t use his right leg normally.
After X-rays, the doctor let us know that Lewis has a severe luxating patella. Basically, his kneecap keeps being pulled out of place. Every day is painful for this poor baby, but he is still so hungry for life and fun. You can tell he just wants to be a goofy floof.
The good news is that because Lewis is so young, starting treatment now gives him a real chance to recover fully and grow into the happy, active Pyr he deserves to be.
It’s going to be a long journey with two surgeries. The first will release the tension pulling on his kneecap and repair the surrounding tissue to help hold it in a better position. This should reduce the pain he is in now, make his limp less severe, and help his leg grow properly. Then, once he’s around a year old and his bones are more fully developed, he’ll be ready for the second surgery to correct the joint itself.
The orthopedic clinic estimated that both surgeries will cost $5,000, and we need your help to make them happen. Lewis meets with the orthopedic surgeon on Thursday, when we should learn how soon his first surgery can be scheduled so we’ll keep you updated!
Lewis has already known so much pain, fear, and rejection in his short life, but all of that is the past now. We’ve got him. He is safe, with a full belly, and loved. Now, together, we can make sure his whole life ahead is healthy and pain-free.
Please help this sweet boy grow up strong, so he can patrol the perimeter, chase squirrels, and enjoy all the stuff a Pyr should. Every donation, no matter the amount, helps make that future real for Lewis. 🩵🐾
